"If I Were You"

A closeup of the lock from the video. It's a lavender octagon with 4 keyholes in pink, yellow, green, and blue. The inside of the pink lock is letting rays of bright light through.
Here, in case you wanted something more inscrutable than last time.

Notes

This demanded a lot more knowledge of Blender! I was too scared to make a real character, but this idea was adapted from an animation I wanted to make that did have a character. I want to build on that idea someday, it's a bit different from how it manifested here. What's with those keyholes…?

There were lots of rendering issues with this, including crashes and misbehaving geo nodes simulations for the smoke. I forgot to enable and disable certain objects before rendering some of the 3 scenes, which was a pain. You can see that there's no moulding in the reflection. That was a mistake!

I made this using EEVEE, but the scenes with the figure still took 13-20 seconds per frame. Might have to do with the 2 million polygons it's made of. Oops! I wanted it to be a volume instead, but volumes don't show up in reflections in EEVEE…

I was also scared of scoring this. I didn't compose anything, instead I noodled in vague time to the events. I did some light editing of what I played in Ardour, and slightly retimed a few notes to be more in-sync. Getting video into Ardour was a pain, but that's what I get for using my distro's version!

I've got negative feelings about how much of a nothing-burger this animation is. I want the next thing I make to be written. And have a character. We'll see!
